The Academic Senate is composed by the following members:

The Rector of ULK who acts as the Chairman

The Vice-Rectors, notably the Vice-Rector Academic who acts as

Vice-President and secretary

The Deans of faculties

The Director of Research, Consultancy & Cooperation

The Director of Quality

The Director of Services to students

The Director of Finance

The Director of Academic Affairs

The Director of Human Resources

The Director of Technique and Assets

The Director of Career Advisory Centre

A student by faculty. He/she is elected by his/her peers.

The Library Director

The heads of departments

An entitled lecturer per faculty elected by his colleagues

One professor per faculty elected by his colleagues

A student by faculty. He/she is elected by his/her peers.

The commissioner to academic affairs of the General Association of ULK students (AGEULK).

Attributions/ Responsibilities

Below are the Academic Senate’s duties:
 Setting up strategies, programs as well as academic and research schedules which are to be submitted for approval to the administrative board before implementation.
 Preparing and availing the academic regulations for approval to the Administrative Board as regards admission requirements, teaching conditions, good conduct, sitting for examinations, degrees and certificates issued by the institution.
 Analysing any decisions related to exams or other forms of assessment before submitting them to the Administration Board for approval.
 Conducting and supervising teaching-related activities, research and education within faculties, departments and other Centres of the Higher learning institution.
 Suggesting and submitting to the Administration Board any proposals on creating, reducing, changing, suppressing or merging faculties, departments and centers within the Higher Learning Institution
 Preparing and submitting suggestions related to employment, promotion to the Administrative Board, and if need be the termination of contract and dismissal of lecturers and researchers.
 Preparing and submitting to the Administration Board any proposition about subdivision, merging and closing up of the higher learning institution.
 Elaborating and submitting to the Administration Board the annual report on academic, research and teaching activities undertaken within the institution
 Performing and executing any activity required by the Administration Board;
 Etc.

The Senate meets once every two (2) months upon request by its Chairperson or vice-chairperson’s request or else when requested by one-third (1/3) of its members in case the two-thirds (2/3) of the latter are present.
